For better search engine ranking, we’ve previously discussed: a) How to optimize your website; b) Where to submit your website for inclusion, and; c) What directories should your site be included
Having achieved ALL those things, your site’s rank can go nowhere but up. Now, we’ll move towards further improving your rank via Link Popularity Improvement. So, how does link popularity improvement works?
On previous topic (Directory Listing), we’ve mentioned that there are times when other websites (your competitors in particular) have higher rank than yours inspite of being listed on top directories such as DMOZ and Yahoo Directory. We’ve said that part of it can be attributed to your competitor/s having highly optimized website than yours. The other reason is that your competitor may have more inbound links (from other sites towards their site) than you have. Here, we’ll focus on how to gain more inbound links from other sites towards your site.
It would be to your great advantage if you know alot of people who owns websites (or are related to website owners) having reasonable amount of traffic towards their website. All you have to do is to ask them to have your site listed right from their home page, if not on every page header). I would prefer textual hyperlinks that describes your service. But, if you really find the need for graphical representation, be sure to describe the image using the "alt" description in your <a> tag.
If you don’t have that kind of influence, there are several other methods you can make use to increase inbound links towards your site. But, we’ll limit our discussion towards producing more links this way:
- The web sites you want to link towards you website must have high volumes of traffic
- It must be FREE
What are the websites that have those criteria? That’s easy, these are the sites where people most often visit and interact:
- Social Media – free social media like Facebook, YouTube, etc.
- Mail – usually free web-based mail like Yahoo, Gmail, etc.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Almost all generations frolic social media networks, nowadays. This is the best place to create an awareness regarding the existence of your website. You can do this by doing the following:
- Facebook – create several official fan pages for your website and have people "like" it. Be sure that your promos are regularly announced.
- Twitter – create several twitter accounts for your website and have people "follow" it. Be sure that your promos are announced, as well.
- Video – create videos pertaining to your service providing links (text and on video) towards your website. Don’t limit uploading your video to just one (1) video network. Broaden your horizon by uploading to almost all popular video wateringholes you know like, YouTube, Vimeo, etc. Use tools that makes simultaneous video uploading possible and easy. Also, don’t limit yourself in creating videos. Constantly create videos. Upload the same on blogs and provide links from Facebook towards YouTube (as an example).
- Blogs – create blogs that would eventually help generate traffic towards your site. You may also secure help from existing bloggers (with a good number of subscribers) to generate traffic towards your site. Have all promos announced.
- Local Networks – if your target market is more on local subscribers, then utilize local sites by all means. As an example, http://sulit.com.ph is a popular free network for Filipino buyers/sellers. Create several seller accounts there and have the same pointed towards your site. Have all promos announced.
WEB MAILS
Up to now, mail has been an indispensable tool for communication. Venture into viral marketing by creating a subscription based newsletter and send regular sales and promos via email.
Having all these in mind, you would then ask yourself as to where you have failed. Just follow each steps and know where you could improve. After having all these guides presented, it’s only you who would know where your weaknesses are.
